Entry 260 - Lovin' Waikiki

Paddled out again this morning for another Queens Waikiki session. Beautiful again but a little smaller and harder to catch the good waves. I'm so used to Porto closeouts that I miss the easy, crumbly shoulder to head high sets here. Still I caught two nice ones to make it another wonderful morning in Waikiki!

Entry 259 - Waikiki Day 1

First surf session in Waikiki! Been here for 2 days but a pretty decent southern swell kept me from tempting fate - new break, even if it is Waikiki. Paddle out was long but pretty easy and not as far as I had expected. Caught both a left and a right and then 2 that brought me straight in. Long rides which I wasn't used to coming from Porto! Nice warm water too! I could definitely get used to the surf at Waikiki even if the place is a little like Vegas.

Entry 258 - Last 2015 Maui Surf Session

My last surf session in Maui for 2015 and it turned out to be nice and quiet. Got in for dawn patrol before the schools started showing up and although there were only about 6 or 7 good sets in the hour I was out there, I had a great time. Most memorable ride was a nice waist high set that took me close to the rocks of the jetty. Next post will be of my surf experience in Waikiki!

Entry 257 - In Search of a Board

Another beautiful day in paradise! Boss Frog's was out of boards so I had to go searching - wanted a performance board this time that was a little lighter. Found what I needed at Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy and was pleased. Surf schools were out in force in the harbor so traffic was pretty heavy and I had to keep my eye on everyone. No major injuries besides my annual reef scratches though and I caught a few nice ones in the warm water!

Entry 256 - Muggy in LA

Heard on the news and from the Facebook feeds that LA has been muggy all weekend and that A/C is a must today. Glad I'm in Hawaii! Lahaina Harbor again today before I take the board bag to Boss Frog's. Better sets than yesterday but the teachers were out in force. Lots of dodging going on and had to pay attention... felt like Porto on a Saturday morning! Gotta remember to watch the dismount here. Almost got a face full of coral once or twice. Yikes!

Entry 255 - Lahaina Return

Back in Maui! Annual summer vacation in Hawaii and got out to catch some swell today in Lahaina. Same old knee to waist high weak stuff but still fun. Yes, I could have gone to the east side (e.g., Ho'okipa) but it's a long drive and I'm on vacation. I'll settle for the small stuff and being among the folks getting lessons. It's always fun to see the little kids stand up on their first wave. Wife got out too and enjoyed herself. All around a beautiful day with the family with post-session at the Surfing Goat Dairy as we usually do.

Entry 253 - New Fin

Bought a new 9" wide fin this weekend to try out noseriding this summer. First try today... success! No, wasn't hanging ten or five but I did feel the difference. The board really dug into the wave and held strong through the sections. Rode higher on the face than I was with the 6.5" fin. Really a cool, different feel. Loved it. Now I'm gonna put the 6.5" fin on the 8' Brog and see how that works out.

Entry 252 - Porto Drift

Thought today was gonna be better than the past few days in terms of shape but I was wrong. Everything was pretty walled up with the occasional rideable stuff getting through. The rip going up the coast was pretty strong too. Lots of paddling just to stay between 40th and 44th. Mostly lefts today.
