Entry 348 - Windy

It's by birthday so I had to get out there. Wasn't worth it. Chop and wind. Limited corners and crazy people. Should've slept in.

Entry 322 - Saturday Session

Pretty much a repeat of yesterday but I chose an old wetsuit instead of trunks this time which made it more comfortable. Didn't catch anything today though. Maybe it was just an off day for me but it was long waits, lots of paddling to get into position, and big sets that would come through to clear out the lineup. Easy paddle out like yesterday but just wasn't feeling it.

Entry 316 - Sunday Funday

Cool breeze on a Sunday morning with bumpy, weak surf to boot. Caught a couple - even a rare right. Thinking if the sun was out I could have worn my trunks. Wishing the sun would show itself.

Entry 310 - Area Code

No Pic Today

Dawn patrol and board meeting in one today. Not a ton of fun though. Surf was mixed up and heavy and I only got out into the lineup once. On my first paddle out I ended up 6 blocks north because of the strong longshore current. Got my workout in though!

Entry 296 - Certain Days

There are certain days I just want to say "fuck it", dump all of my responsibilities and just surf until my arms fall off. This is one of those days. If only the surf would have cooperated. I feel like I'm coming down with another cold or sinus infection again too. WTF. At least the weather was nice and warm.

Paddled out caught a nice left and a nice right and then had to head back into work. The grind is getting to me.

Entry 292 - Done with El Nino

Just like my last post, I'm done with El Nino. Water is cold, storms and northern swell have really mixed up and swamped out El Porto so my workday sessions are gonna get few and far between. Luckily got one in today at 12:30 and was glad for it. The sun helped keep things a little warmer!

Entry 247 - Low Tide (Again)...

No Pic Today

Went with the Brog Egg today and tried to catch something in the low tide, weak, crumbly stuff to little avail. Ended up with one really short ride that was pretty steep and then had to call it a morning to get into work at a reasonable time. Hopefully the weekend is gonna make for some better conditions but judging from the forecast, it looks weak and small. Water was nice and warm though!!

Entry 246 - Walking to the Lineup

You could say it was low tide... I walked out to the lineup. Pretty dangerous so I brought the 8' Egg to help avoid any potential pearling and bending the nose on the Stewart. Not as fun as yesterday but good to be out there with the crew. Sunny day made for a great welcome to summer!

Entry 243 - The Lake

The surf has just sucked over the past week but this morning looked to be the best day to get out. A little surf before work... helps reduce the stress. Lots of small stuff and some dumpy walls but overall it was a lot of fun and definitely reduced my stress. I hope the summer surf season gets better because right now with May and half of June almost over, it's not looking good.

Entry 236 - Washing Machine

Got the washing machine today. Probably because it was so weak and I was trying to get anything I could after the long Monday and Tuesday this week. Also, trying to get one last session in before the weekend and wedding in the family. Caught 2 okay rides and then the washing machine (shoulder high, walled up weak wave that I fell back on). Here's to my bro's wedding!!

Yep, yesterday was fun and today was closeouts for dawn patrol! Got on the egg and paddled around catching only two small ones. Everyday can't be a great day. Especially at Porto!

Entry 227 - No Joy

No Pic Today

Got out this morning hoping for the best but wasn't rewarded. Brought the Brog out for some practice and just couldn't get it going. Surf was inconsistent with no shape and walled up where I had paddled out. Should have padded further north.

Entry 226 - Windy and Hot

Breezy and hot. After a long weekend, I got out for an early sunset session. Thought it was going to be nice and glassy or maybe a little bumpy but it turned out to be choppy and dumpy. After catch 2 small ones I got dumped on by a nice head high set and then called it a session.

Entry 217 - Post-Cold

My cold was pretty harsh and the swell was pretty big and heavy the past week. Guess I picked a good time to get a cold! ;) Got back out today to just some so-so stuff that was a bit dumpy with very little shape. Caught my one wave of the day and road back in on my board like a boogie board. Wish I would have caught a little more but breathing was still a bit of a challenge with my congestion. Feeling much better tonight.

Entry 215 - Lurchy

Went down to Porto on Thursday and Friday morning and all I saw was a ton of backwash and the surf lurching up when it started to look good. Skipped it and hoped that today would be better. Well... just a little better and more swampy given that it was high tide. Still caught my one and rode it in to call it a morning. Ho, hum.

Entry 214 - Just Didn't Feel It

Not sure if the swell wasn't cooperating, the break wasn't there, or I just wasn't feeling it, but either way, caught nadda today. Lot's of paddling back-and-forth at the MB pier but nothing to show for it in the end. Just felt like I had to get out today since the weekend was gonna be a desert one. Oh, well.

Entry 210 - Lunchtime Session

Kept my eye on the camera for most of the morning and finally pulled the trigger at lunchtime and went for a quick 30-min session. While the water was cold and sets crumbly, the surf was fun. Gonna be getting bigger toward the weekend so I'll need to get out again tomorrow and maybe Thursday.

Entry 198 - Victory at Sea!

Headed to San Onofre for the night with the family. Got off to a rough start in the morning with my car having to go back into the shop after being there on Thursday already. By the time we got down to San O' the wind the blowin' pretty good and it was chilly. Not the water though!!! It was 71 deg and just awesome to be in. Sure the waves looked like something out of a WWII flick but it was still worth it.

Entry 193 - Manhattan Beach

Woke up and watched the Porto surf cam for 15-20 min trying to decide if I should head out. It just looked too swampy. About 10 past 7 I bit the bullet and got in the car. By the time I arrived the parking lot was full and the surf looked pretty good. "Oh, well," I said, "let's check out Manhattan Pier." I'd never surfed Manhattan Pier but today was a good day to try. Got there, parked on the south side, put on wetsuit, and paddled out. Yes, pretty swampy! Caught one nice right and a so-so left. I'll be back.
