Entry 096 - Leftovers

Not many people out today and I could see why. The leftovers from the weekend swell were just so-so. Definitely long board material. Caught two nice lefts and a nice right with a bunch of short runs spread throughout. While the break was pretty close to shore, the 6' high tide helped keep the water pretty deep for the close in rides. Didn't see the shark today but the water was ripe for it - really clear. The rest of the first half of the week is suppose to be pretty small so I'm probably not gonna head out but we'll see.

Weather: 64 deg, Partly Cloudy Skies

Entry 084 - Crystal Clear

Crystal clear day today on the water and in the sky. Surf was a little small but workable and fun. Right out of the gate, I caught a nice right that I rode down the line for a bit. Not many folks out either which made it even nicer. The water was so clear you could see the ocean floor 7 - 8 ft down and I even spotted my first ray. No white shark though. I could swear I saw a couple of whales in the distance too. Beautiful!

Conditions: Clear, Small, Dumpy, Knee to Thigh High Plus

Sea Life: Sting Ray (1), Whale (2?)

Entry 007 - Whales and Paddling

Well, skipped out on San O' this weekend and opted to stay in the South Bay.  Thought the surf was going to be better in Porto.  Not so much.  Not that it was bad, but I just wasn't feeling it.  Cold, long periods that ended up either weak or walled.  Of course, the fact that I haven't been out in two weeks didn't help.  It was really crowded too (everyone was itching to get out after the small week) and the current pushed me from 40th street to almost the jetty in 20 minutes.  Tried to catch a few but had little luck.  Hoping tomorrow will be better.  I think the time change did me in too. Waking up before the sun is tough enough on workdays.  Here's hoping for a better St. Patty's Day session!

Weather: 54 deg, Dense Overcast
Conditions: Long Periods,  Weak and then Walled, Crowded
Waves Caught: 1 (kinda)
Sea Life: Dolphins (4), Whales (2, in the distance)
Sea Temp: 56 deg

Entry 001 - And it begins...

My first entry on this new blog.  Picked up surfing about 3 years ago and been doing it on and off up until July 2012 when I finally decided to take to it and go at least 2 if not 3 days a week.  Making the time... can't be a good dad, husband, and employee without me time!

So...

Nice to finally get out on a Saturday after a few weeks of crazy weather.  Porto was crowded, everybody wanted to surf today.  Only bit it once.  Nice quick surf session then head home to head to a birthday party for one of our daughter's friends.  Good time overall.  Groundhog said springtime is coming early so I'm looking forward to summer!

Weather: 60 deg, Overcast, Chilly but not Cold
Conditions: Textured, Inconsistent, Crowded
Waves Caught: 4.5
Sea Life: Dolphins (3), Seal (1, and he caught a fish!), Whale (1)
Sea Temp: 56 deg
