Entry 177 - Pre-Labor Day Session

Well, Hurricane Marie has come and gone and the surf has turned back to something more manageable for me. It was fun watching all the surf cams and videos of folks in Malibu - especially Laird Hamilton shooting the pier! Porto had a nice sand bar built up which made things fun this morning and I'l hoping it's going to get better through the rest of the week. We'll see!

Entry 176 - No Dice

Hurricane Marie is kicking up the swell but only closeouts and walls at Porto today. Malibu looks pretty awesome but I'll pass. Somebody died today when they probably shouldn't have been out in the water. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be out there but I don't think I'm good enough for that and don't want to risk it. Marie should settle down by the weekend so I'm hoping to get back out then. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the videos!

Entry 175 - Small Saturday

Skipped the San O' trip this weekend and I think it was a good choice. The surf cam at San O' didn't show anything really promising but Porto was its fun usual self with the normal gang. While most of the sets were small a few chest high plus sets worked their way through making it even more fun for the crowd. Caught two real nice rights and a left that I screwed up just as I could have gotten a nice barrel. So close!!

Entry 174 - 3rd Day in a Row

Yep, got out for a 3rd day in a row even though the surf looked really small. Hurricane Lowell is heading north and it looks like the surf for the weekend is gonna get pretty big. We'll see if I go out but I'm itching to. Even with the small crumbly stuff today there were a few choice small sets that came in giving some nice rides. Overall, glad I went out even it was just for 40 minutes.

Entry 173 - Happy Birthday!

Birthday session for me! Wooohooo! Pretty much the same conditions as yesterday but slightly bigger sets every once in awhile. Hurricane Lowell is suppose to be bringing good conditions this weekend to south facing locations but I'm gonna stay in the South Bay I think. Not ready for the strength of the expected 6-10 footers just yet. I want to get there someday, though.

Anyway back to today. Continued to work on my lefts and trying to catch a barrel. Got really close again today and caught my fair share of the good stuff. Happy birthday to me!!

Entry 172 - Pre-Birthday Session

Last day before my next birthday (no I won't tell you my age)! Surf was bumpy and dumpy with not much to write home about. Caught two nice lefts that I tried to turn into barrels but they just dumped too fast. Really trying though. My backside surfing is improving but still needs work. Caught one right that was just too weak to really go anywhere. Quick session and then headed in for work.

Entry 171 - With Egg

Brought the Egg today but was disappointed. Small stuff and still walled up. Good to get out before a long weekend away though. Here's hoping next week will bring some better surf!

Entry 170 - Shoulda Gone w/ Egg

No Pic Today

It was a lot steeper than it looked on the webcam. Should have brought the Brog Egg. My first wave was a nice right that I only wished would have gone on a little longer but it walled up right in front of me. Caught a few more short lefts and rights and then had to hurry on in to get to work for a meeting. Lately work has just been getting in my way. Booo!!!

Entry 169 - Flat-ness

I knew it wasn't gonna be worth it but I paddled out anyway and caught 3 waves in 1 hr - lots of waiting. Man was it dead out there. Still, it was a great way to start the week. Nothing much else to say. ;)

Entry 168 - Amazing What a Day Makes

It's amazing how Porto can change in a day. Yesterday was sucky but today was fun! Sure not as big but I think that helped keep everything from walling up. There were closeouts every once in a while but the majority of stuff was fun and rideable (for Porto). Caught my fair share of both rights and lefts and had fun chatting it up with the normal crew. There were surf lessons today so had to keep clear of those guys.

Haven't seen the shark in months. Thinking that with the closure of fishing at MB Pier, the sharks have less to feed on. I kinda miss 'em.

Entry 167 - Bumpy and Walled

No Pic Today

Not even worth a pic. Bumpy and walled up crashing really close into the shallows. Caught 1 nice left that turned into something just okay and a right before paddling back in to get the workday started. Still good to get into the water after a long week of meetings.

Entry 166 - Don't Learn

I'll never learn... but that's okay. Yep, the surf looked really crappy from the parking lot and the normal folks weren't out. I told myself I needed to get into the water and so I did. Only to be disappointed. I did catch one semi-long left that made it worth the paddle out, though. It's always good to get in the ocean.

Entry 165 - Back On Dawn Patrol

Back with the same old Porto crew! Seems like everyone is back from their vacations but the surf is still taking a break. Low tide made it real interesting this morning. By the time I got my bottom turn in, I was in calf high water. Kinda scary but still fun. Caught one nice left and a nice right that made my session. Long periods.

Entry 164 - Board in the Face?

A little less bumpy than the past two days and, after waiting in the parking lot for a bit, I paddled out. Caught 2 really nice rights and one where the board almost smacked me in the face! Couple of short lefts and then it was time for work. Here's hoping dawn patrol tomorrow is twice as good as today!
